Channel Islands National Park comprises five islands. We decided to visit Santa Cruz Island, the largest island in California, for a day trip. Mike and I took a 9 AM ferry from Ventura Harbor. The cool morning air energized us when the unexpected humpback whales showed.

When we arrived Scorpion Cove on Santa Cruz Island, our first stop was the general orientation by a National Park Service volunteer. She not only grounded us in the island's unique ecosystem and rules but also mentioned a guided hike at 11 AM.

With our initial bearings, we set off on the Cavern Point hike. The path wound through rugged beauty, offering sweeping ocean vistas and the chance to observe the island's resilient flora.

Later we joined the free guided hike, which became a true highlight of our day, transforming our walk into a fascinating lesson. We learned about the island's intriguing past, its current conservation efforts, and the significant challenges it faces.

After guided hike, we leisurely walked to Potato Harbor. Overlooking the sparkling turquoise waters and dramatic cliffs, we found the perfect spot for our lunch, kimbap. Sitting there, savoring every bite amidst such an incredible view, was a pure joy.

Returning to Scorpion Cove around 3:15 PM, we felt a sense of humbleness and fulfillment. Our 4 PM ferry, the last ferry of the day, ride back to the mainland was filled with quiet reflection on a day well spent fully and unhurriedly.
